Above is the schematic for a PV Genset Controller. The main function of this controller is that it combines the outputs of solar system and Generators with the grid. Diesel generators and photovoltaic technology can be combined in perfect harmony. Although these technologies have rarely been in demand by the same users in the past, combining them has now become extremely beneficial technically and ecologically. The entire system is controlled effortlessly by the PV system controller. With the PV-Genset Easy solution, photovoltaic systems can be integrated into existing diesel systems quickly and easily. The solution is optimized for low-voltage applications with one diesel generator.

      Big Solar Plants works with the grid but in Pakistan, we have a problem of load shedding. When load shedding occurs then the solar plants also stop working. If a system of 1 MW has been installed and power outage remains for 1 hour then the investor will bear the loss of about 1000 units in that one hour. To cater this problem, PV genset controllers are installed with-in the system to keep the system alive by giving generator output to the solar system. By this way, solar system will remain alive even in the outage time but there is big problem associated with it. Grid is an unlimited source, it can bear unlimited back power but generators cannot. If back power exceeds form a certain level, it will damage the armature of the generator which can cause drastic failure of the generator. To stop the back from entering the generator, PV diesel controllers are installed. These controllers limitize the power production from the solar system if the load requirement is low and prevent the power to enter the generator.

      Big players like SMA, Fronius, DEIF and Encombi have their PV genset controller but they are very expensive. Their availability in the Pakistani Market is also very limited. Due to these factors, installers usually do not use PV-Diesel controllers with the system. Energy Live is developing a low cost solution which will serve the same purpose. It will control the power of the solar system in order to save the generator from failing drastically and will keep the solar system alive. This controller will prioritize the solar energy over the generator output. This will minimize the fuel consumption of the generator as well as minimize the load on generator. This will help in elongating the life of the generator itself.
